Look It Up

Why you would use it

Dragging is fine when you can get hold of the thing. It isn’t fine for a line half a point wide, for a shape underneath another one, or for the rectangle you have just this second drawn — which is selected, but your hand is still holding the rectangle tool.

For example

What to do

  1. Select what you want to move — anything you have just drawn already is.
  2. Press the arrow keys to nudge it, or Ctrl+M to pick it up and carry it.
  3. Click to put it down. Escape leaves it exactly where it was.

Going further

Hold Shift with an arrow to move ten times as far, and set the step in Settings. A run of presses collapses into one entry in the history, so undo goes back to before the first one rather than unpicking forty. Nothing about a move changes a quantity: length, area, angle and count are all the same wherever the shape sits, and a callout's leader and an area's cutouts travel with it.

Keep going
