A scratch pad: measure something to see how big it’s without adding it to your bill.
Sometimes you only want to know how long something is. Temporary mode draws and reads out your measurements normally, but leaves them out of every total, and clears them when you leave the page.
Choose Temporary measurements from the View menu (or find it with Ctrl+F).
Measure as usual. The readings appear, but nothing goes into a group.
