A Dato Room won’t join, or says it lost the connection
What the messages mean, and what to try, in order.
Your work is never lost by a dropped connection. What you do while it’s down waits, is counted as not shared yet in the lobby, and goes up when it comes back.
“Connection lost, reconnecting…”
- Usually your network, a sleeping laptop or a changed network. It reconnects by itself; give it a few seconds.
- Still not back? Check you’re online, then choose Room › Rejoin. Everything you did meanwhile is still there.
“Couldn’t join”
- The room may have ended or run out. A room lasts the days its host chose. Ask for a new link.
- The link may be cut short. Copy it again in full; it’s long on purpose.
- The relay couldn’t be reached. Try again, or on another network; some work networks block it.
“You weren’t let in”
The host chose Not now. Ask them to send the link again if you think that was a mistake. If the page says the room is full, a free room holds a pair and both places are taken.
“Reload the page” when joining
The host's room lets people in one at a time, and the page you have open is older than that. Reload it, then use the link again.
“Open the same drawing first”
The host didn’t share the drawing itself, so you need the very same file. A copy that has been exported, merged or edited is a different file. Ask for the original, open it, then use the link again.
I can’t mark up, or send a file
You may have the view-only link, which can look and chat but not draw or share files. Ask for the mark-up link.
A drawing someone added won’t open
If it was added by name (too big to share as a file), use Use my copy… in the Drawings tab and choose your own copy. If it says it isn’t the same file, you have a different version.
