Put a legend of quantities on the sheet

A table on the drawing that says what was measured, in colour, and stays right as you measure. It goes out with the PDF.

When you send a marked-up drawing, the person reading it shouldn't have to guess what the blue area is. A quantities legend says so on the sheet itself: a colour, a name and a total for each take-off group.

Place one

  1. Put your measurements into take-off groups, and give each group the colour you want people to see.
  2. Choose Place a quantities legend (find it in the command palette by typing “legend”). It appears at the lower left of what you can see.
  3. Drag its corners to the size you like. The lettering grows and shrinks to fit the box.
  4. Double-click it for its options.

What you can choose

Which sheets it covers: this one, every sheet, or a range such as 1-3, 5. A total for each kind (all the lengths, all the areas). Whether measurements that aren't in a group are listed. Which rows to show, and what to call each one, so a group called “WP01 roof” can read “Blue roof” on the sheet. How it looks: a white plate, a soft grey one or none, with or without an edge.

Why you can trust its numbers

Nothing in it is typed. It is worked out from your measurements every time it's drawn, so measuring more, moving something or deleting it changes it at once. The figures are added up exactly and rounded once, to the precision of the sheet, so a legend total matches the take-off instead of drifting by a digit.
