Open a specification or report, and have it recognised
A Word-style specification isn’t a drawing. DatoMark notices, reads its cover, and tells you what it refers to.
Not every PDF is a drawing. A specification clause set or a report is mostly text, and measuring on it makes no sense. When you open one, DatoMark looks at the first page and the way the document is built (a cover, a running header, numbered clauses) and says what it thinks it is.
- Open the PDF as usual.
- A note appears in Properties under the document: Specification, Report or Drawing, with how sure it is.
- For a specification, the cover is read: the reference, the work section (such as G30), the title, the status, the revision, the date, the project and client, and any other document it refers to.
- Each value shows how it was found. If the cover was only a picture, it’s read by recognition on this computer and marked as read from a picture.
You can switch the automatic reading off in Settings (Read documents when they open). The program then treats everything as a drawing.
It never reads quantities from a specification. It tells you what the document is and what it points at, and leaves the rest to you.
