Show and hide layers

The drawing's own layers (what the CAD file contained) and your own markup layers are kept apart. Hiding is about looking, never about the job.

The Layers panel has two kinds of layer, and it tells you which is which.

Arrived in the file
The drawing's own layers, if the PDF carries them (CAD exports often do). Switching one off hides it on the sheet. It never changes a quantity.
Made in this session
Your own sets of markup. Make a layer, pick it, and what you draw next goes on it. Use it to separate trades, or your measurements from someone else's comments.
  1. Open the Layers panel and make a layer.
  2. Pick it so the next thing you draw goes on it, or select what’s already there and use the arrow on the layer's row.
  3. Use the eye to show or hide it, and the padlock to stop it being picked up.

Deleting a layer never deletes what’s on it: the markup goes back to being on no layer, and the message says how much.
