Find your way round a large sheet (the navigation map)

A small picture of the sheet with a frame where you are looking, so zoomed in you always know where you are, and can go anywhere in one press.

Zoomed in to read a detail, it’s easy to lose where you are on a big sheet. The navigation map is a small picture of the sheet, in a corner of the drawing, with a frame on it showing exactly what you are looking at. It appears when you zoom in and goes away when the whole sheet is on screen.

Using it

  1. Press anywhere on the map to go there: the frame's middle moves to where you pressed.
  2. Drag the frame to move about. Pressing inside the frame keeps your hold on it, so it doesn’t jump.
  3. Hover over it and a dashed frame shows where a press would put you. Hold Shift and drag to draw an area, and the drawing zooms to fill the window with it.
  4. Turn the wheel over the map to zoom in or out about the middle of the window. Double-press to fit the whole page.
  5. Made a wrong jump? The back button on its title returns to where you were (it remembers the last twenty jumps). On a set of several pages, the arrows on the title step through the pages.
  6. With the keyboard: Tab to the map, then the arrow keys move the view (Shift for bigger steps), plus and minus zoom, Home fits the page, Escape goes back to the drawing.
  7. Pull its title to put it in another corner; it settles in the nearest. The cross hides it, and View, Navigation map (or Settings, Tools) brings it back.

What’s on it

The sheet as you’re looking at it (turned, cropped or straightened if you have done that), your marks in their own colours so you can see where the work is, and the one you have selected standing out. Settings can leave the marks off.

In a Dato Room

Your map is your own: it shows where you are looking and nothing about it’s sent. When you follow somebody, its edge takes their colour, it says who you are following, and it draws their frame so you can see where they are. If you go your own way in a presentation, the presenter's frame stays on it as a dashed outline, and pressing it takes you back to them. Settings, Tools can also show everyone's frames, each with an initial; press one to see what that person is looking at.
