Start a Dato Room

Share a drawing so you and somebody else mark it up at once, and see each other's marks as they’re drawn.

A Dato Room is a drawing you mark up together, live. You start it, send a link, and whoever opens the link joins you: they get the drawing, and everything anybody draws shows up for everybody a moment later.

  1. Open the drawing, then choose Room in the top bar (or Ctrl+F and type “Dato Room”). If you have marks on it you’re offered the chance to save a project file first.
  2. Choose how it works: Share the drawing (people open it straight from the link), whether people may change each other's marks, and whether to let people in one at a time (you say yes to each person at the door; see Let people in, and hand the room over). Pick how long the room stays open: 1, 7 or 30 days.
  3. Choose Start the room. The lobby opens.
  4. On the People tab, press Copy invite to mark up (or the view-only one) and send it however you like.
  • Mark up: the person can draw, change their own marks, chat and share files.
  • View only: they can look, follow you and chat, but not mark up or share files. Use it for somebody who only needs to see.

What a room holds

A free room is for a pair: you and one other person. The drawing can be up to 25 MB; a bigger one can still be used by name, so everyone opens their own copy (see Put more than one drawing in a room). The room is forgotten when its days run out, or when you end it.

When somebody comes into the room or leaves it you see a small message ("Sam joined") and hear a soft pop for a join. Several people at once are one message. Turn the message or the sound off in Settings › Collaborate.
