Count things: by clicking, by text, or all at once
Three ways to count rooflights, brackets, outlets and the like, and which to use when.
Counting is for things you order by the number rather than the metre. A count is one measurement whose quantity is the number of points in it, so a hundred rooflights are one line in your register, not a hundred.
1. Click each one
- Press C for Count.
- Click each item. A running total follows the cursor.
- Press Enter or right-click (or pick another tool) to bank the count. Escape throws it away.
2. Count every one of a symbol
If the same symbol is drawn many times, point at one and let the program find the rest. It’s faster, and it doesn’t miss the one behind a dimension.
3. Count a reference the drawing already names
If each item is tagged (WC07, RL01, D12), the program can find the tag in the drawing's own text and count it. Open Drawing intelligence from the status bar, and pick a reference it found.
- Click Drawing intelligence in the status bar (the line that says what this drawing can tell us).
- Choose a reference from the list.
- Look at the total and the pages it came from, untick a page if it’s wrong, and choose Create counts.
