Why you would use it

A drawing set is a filing cabinet with no index. Finding the sheet that mentions a room, a detail number or a product is the difference between reading one sheet and opening forty.

For example

What to do

  1. Press Ctrl and F, or use the search button in the toolbar.
  2. Type. Results appear sheet by sheet as they’re found.
  3. Press Enter for the next match, Shift and Enter for the previous.
  4. Click any result to go to it, or open the chevron beside it and press Show me.
  5. Tick “Whole words only” if you don’t want “poo” to find “poodle”.

Going further

It searches the sheet you’re looking at first and works outwards, so the nearest answer arrives before the far ones. Open a result and it says which page it’s on, whether the word was found whole or inside a longer one, and roughly where on the sheet to look. A scanned drawing has no text in it at all — the status bar says whether this one is searchable. Going to a match scrolls to it and leaves your zoom alone unless the words would be too small to read. Nothing is added to the drawing: closing the panel leaves the sheet exactly as it was.
