Look It Up

Why you would use it

Reading one sheet against another is most of checking a set: a plan against its section, revision C against revision D, a schedule against the drawing it counts. Switching back and forth loses the place; side by side with the two kept level, the eye can go from one to the other.

For example

What to do

  1. Choose Side view from View or the finder.
  2. Choose what to show: this drawing, another open drawing, or Choose a PDF.
  3. Pick the page in the side view; the gap you chose is kept as you move through the set.
  4. Set how they follow each other, or turn it off. Close it with the × when you are done.

Going further

The side view is a plain view: no marks are drawn in it and nothing can be measured or marked there, because the project belongs to the drawing in the main view. Following works by relative position on the sheet, so two revisions of one sheet line up exactly and two different sheets line up by proportion. Scroll up and down together keeps only the vertical position in step, which keeps the rows of a wide schedule level. A drawing opened from a tab or from disk is opened for looking and is let go when the side view closes; nothing is written to it.
