Read the title block

Reads the drawing number, title, scale, revision, status and the ISO 19650 drawing code from the sheet's own title block, and outlines every word it came from.

Why you would use it

A drawing exported from Revit or CAD already carries its title block as text. Typing the drawing number into a take-off by hand is slow and is where a transposed digit gets in; reading it’s quick, and outlining it on the sheet lets you check it at a glance.

For example

What to do

  1. Open the sheet and choose Read the title block, from the finder or Drawing intelligence.
  2. If the sheet is a picture, or the reading is poor, choose Scan title block in the panel.
  3. Point at a row to see the label and value outlined on the sheet.
  4. Correct anything that’s wrong, then Use as drawing number, or Read every sheet to name a whole set at once.

Going further

A sheet exported from Revit or CAD already carries its words, so reading it isn’t recognition and nothing is guessed. A sheet that’s a picture is read by Scan title block: it finds the ruled title block, cuts out each piece of text, tells the labels apart by their shape against the known labels, reads the values with a text-recognition engine that runs on this computer (nothing is uploaded), and puts right look-alike slips in values whose form is known (a status of AS becomes A5), saying so on the row. It takes seconds to about half a minute and may slow other work meanwhile; it can be stopped. Recognition isn’t perfect on small print: every value it read is marked, outlined on the sheet and editable. A value the template left as its own default ("Author", "Unnamed") is shown as template text. The drawing code is split by the ISO 19650 order — project, originator, volume, level, type, role, number — and checked against the file name, which is only ever a cross-check.
