Why you would use it

So anybody who opens the PDF you send knows exactly what was counted, without opening the program or asking you.

For example

What to do

  1. Measure and put your measurements into take-off groups (the colour you gave each group is the colour in the legend).
  2. Choose Place a quantities legend. It appears at the lower left of what you can see.
  3. Drag its corners to size it, and double-click it for its options: which sheets it covers, a total for each kind, which rows to show and what to call them.
  4. Export the PDF. The legend is part of the page, so every reader shows it.

Going further

Figures are added up exactly and written once, to the precision of the sheet, so a legend total always matches the take-off: it never adds up rounded figures. Only what is measured is listed. A star beside a row means some measurements have no scale yet and are not in the figure. By default the figures are as measured on the drawing; if the legend covers every sheet you can show them as in the take-off instead, with each group's slope and allowances. You can put more than one legend on a sheet, for example one for the roof and one for the walls.
