Look It Up
Lock the panels
Keep every panel exactly where it is, so a stray click can’t drag one away.
Keep every panel exactly where it is, so a stray click can’t drag one away.
Why you would use it
Once the window is arranged the way you work, the only thing a panel can do by accident is get in the way: a drag that starts a pixel off, a resize edge caught while reaching for a scrollbar. Locking says the arrangement is finished.
For example
What to do
- Click the padlock on a panel's strip, or choose Lock the panels from right-click, Panels.
- Click it again, or untick it in Settings, Appearance, to move things again.
Going further
One lock covers the whole layout. Locked, a panel can’t be pulled out, dragged, resized, moved to another edge or nudged with the keyboard, and the options that would move one say so rather than doing nothing. Showing and hiding still work, because hiding loses nothing. It’s remembered on this device.
