Look It Up

Page brightness and contrast

Make a pale scan or a sheet with a dark background easier to read: brightness, contrast, greyscale and invert, with the effect seen as you move the slider.

Make a pale scan or a sheet with a dark background easier to read: brightness, contrast, greyscale and invert, with the effect seen as you move the slider.

Why you would use it

A faint photocopy, a photographed plan or a drawing that’s hard to read on screen, without touching the drawing itself.

For example

What to do

  1. Open it from View, or search for it in the command palette.
  2. Move Brightness and Contrast, or switch on Greyscale or Invert.
  3. The status bar says Adjusted while a look is on; click it to change or put the sheet back.

Going further

It’s only how the sheet is shown on this screen. The file isn’t changed, an exported PDF and a comparison are made from the sheet as it is, a count by picture and every measurement use the real pixels and lines, and the marks you draw keep their own colours. It applies to this drawing for this sitting: a drawing you open next starts plain.

If you already use another program

In a PDF markup program: A night or dark mode in a reader: only how the sheet is shown on this screen.

In a CAD program: Changing the display of a background image (brightness, contrast, fade) without changing the file.
