Why you would use it

To say “read this” without covering it up. A highlighter multiplies with the sheet, so the paper goes yellow and the print underneath stays black and readable.

For example

What to do

  1. Drag across what you want to mark.
  2. Hold Shift to keep the band straight.

Going further

It lays down a band several times the style weight, the way a chisel nib does, with flat ends so it stops where the word stops. It keeps its own style separately from the pen — a red highlighter isn’t a thing — and it multiplies in the exported PDF as well as on screen, so what prints is what you saw.

If you already use another program

In a PDF markup program: A highlight: a translucent band over words or a run of lines.
