Redact

Click a word, or drag a box over what’s to be removed. It blacks out the place at once; the words under it are deleted from the page when you press Redact now, in the bar at the bottom of the drawing.

Why you would use it

To take names, numbers or whole areas out of a drawing before it’s sent to somebody who must not see them.

What to do

1. Pick Redact. Click a word to mark it, or drag a box over what’s to go (or find words and mark them from Find).
2. Check them: they show as black, and Review in the bar lists every area with the words it covers. Outline shows the words under them.
3. Press Redact now: you’re shown what will happen, and the words are removed from this drawing (tick Also save a copy if you want a file too).

Going further

A marked area is only a box, drawn in a red nothing else uses: it can be moved, resized, deleted and undone. Applying writes a NEW file and leaves this one alone. In that file every page that has a mark is turned into a picture with the marked areas painted black, so the words, the lines and the images that were underneath no longer exist in it; the cost is that those pages are no longer text you can select or search. Properties, bookmarks, attachments, comments and the editable project aren’t copied. The new file is then searched and looked at again to confirm the words are gone, and it isn’t written if that check fails. When it is saved, Save a record writes a short text note of what was checked, with the copy’s fingerprint; it never repeats the removed words. A redaction can’t be undone in the new file, so keep the original.
